Artistry in Bloom

Your child’s developing sense of humor and imagination are a wonder to behold! Like poetry, they are your little one’s expression beyond the literal. Musically, your child grows with the “literal”—meter and tonality, much as with language, and whether or not your child is yet tuneful and rhythmic, another dimension of your little one’s musicality is blooming that is beyond the literal. It is your child’s artistry. It is your little one’s ability to savor every musical nuance— the building intensity of a line, the melodic twists, the rhythmic drive, the intertwining of rhythm and melody, the dynamic interaction between the words, rhythm and melody.

You may encounter this magical dimension in your little musician’s movement, eyes, enthusiasm, focus, or attention span while engaged with an art song. Unlike your little one’s similar musical response at earlier stages of music development, your child’s musical imagination can become lost in the music. Your child literally becomes the music, living every nuance of line, rhythm, melody, and text, and exploring their artistic interaction.

Your child’s imagination allows your little one to move freely into fantasy with words, getting so caught up in a story that the distinction between pretend and real is blurred. Your child’s musical imagination is equally powerful, blurring the distinction between music and life. Your child is truly an artist.
