Grandchild #1 always feels important when he gets to try out a new CCS activity at Grammy’s computer! Grammy had just completed preparing the first Discrimination Activities, which are in Class 9, and was anxious to observe his response to them. He was just over three years old and ready to begin Class 9, waiting for Grammy to complete it. He was comfortable dialoguing in Duple and Triple meters with syllables, but had not heard the meters referred to as Duple and Triple. The purpose of the Discrimination Activity is to lead children to discover that the two meters they know in sound are different from each other.
He listened to “The Meter Game,” intrigued, yet playing with something else. Grammy asked if she should play it again. “Yes.” After the first repetition, he requested again and again, “Let’s play the Meter Game.” He listened intently for about 6 repetitions while still playing with something else. He finally looked up and declared, “Duple is 'du de du!”
