It Was Just So Moving!

Grandchild #3, having just turned three the week before, sat on Grammy’s lap piloting the new CCS child interface for 3-5 year olds. She was very proud to be in command of the computer and manipulate CCS Activities at will. Occasionally Grammy sang along with the computer. After considerable time with a variety of CCS Activities, this little one happened upon the Art Song, “The Frog and the Cherry Petal.” After several verses with the child on Grammy’s lap facing the computer, Grammy continued to sing the song, engaging her arms and hands in fluid movement in front of the child. Grandchild #3 spontaneously began moving her own arms and hands beautifully with the music.

Knowing that any change could “break the spell,” Grammy sang on the resting tone, inviting the child to stand up. Now face to face, with Grammy continuing to sing the song, Grammy and Granddaughter engaged in fluid movement. The child moved so beautifully, so musically, just mesmerized by the song. She became the song, with her little hands instruments of beauty. The child’s eyes were in training with glasses and a patch on one eye, yet the open eye was a window to the child’s artistic soul. The look on her face and in that one eye was full of artistic reverence—the kind found most in little children and professional musicians.
