Uncommon Sense

"What if I don 't read all of this stuff?"

This is the most important time in your child’s life for music learning.  The more you understand about your child’s music development, the more you can meet your child’s musical needs; just as the more you understand about your child’s emotional and physical development, the more you can meet your child’s emotional and physical needs.

The process of music acquisition in the young child has been uncovered only in the last 30 years.  Very few of us were raised in an environment that meets the young child’s musical needs.  Therefore, providing appropriate music instruction for your little one is not “second nature,” even if you are a musician.  Your investment of time to better understand your child’s music development will not only maximize your child’s music learning, but serve your grandchildren as well; as your child will have a much greater “feel” for music activities appropriate for the next generation.  Eventually, parents will be as knowledgeable about the musical needs of their children as they are about their emotional and physical needs.
