Grammy Lab

He Had a Ball

Grandchild #1, 2 years 2months, was somewhat under the weather, but took Grammy downstairs to his beloved train table layout. His father came down and put on a new CD he thought Grammy might like to hear. It was a young Japanese violinist, doing everything from Shubert to Japanese folk songs to “Somewhere over the Rainbow.” The little train engineer left his post to sit on Grammy’s lap and listen to the beautiful violin. He got up to pick up a large ball and offered, “Now we can sit together.” So Grammy, Grandchild and a big ball sat together listening to five Schubert Fantasies and a variety of other selections. Two year olds rarely sit, and nothing is more dear to this child than his train, yet he sat with the big ball on Grammy’s lap for at least 30 minutes, mesmerized by the violin performance.
