Do I have the personality to teach early childhood music?

A teacher armed with an understanding of the process of music learning in young children, who is in command of curriculum materials and aware of appropriate teaching technique can become an effective teacher of early childhood music, whatever the personality. We all know fine parents who represent every variety of personality and cultural diversity. You will be most effective as a teacher of young children when you allow yourself to be yourself. Young children are genuine, and expect you to be the same.

It is hard not to become charmed by the wonder, openness, and enthusiasm of young children, no matter how staid you might be.  And it is hard not to become enchanted by the serious musicality of young children, no matter how bubbly you might be.  Your success as a teacher of early childhood music is more dependent upon your understanding of the process of music learning in young children, appropriate curriculum materials, and effective teaching technique, than it is on your personality.  And your willingness to engage in sheer musicality with little children will assure that the children will love you.
