The Road Less Traveled

Teachers have engaged in lesson planning for generations, and each teacher’s process is as unique as the teacher. There are many ways to create lesson plans. The process presented in this coursework has been fine-honed through many years in the classroom, and is very effective for the early childhood music classroom. It provides for music learning at all ages and stages, while simplifying weekly lesson planning for multiple classes of different levels. Curriculum materials are effectively integrated into the process, with alpha-numeric titles guiding your choice of appropriate rhythm and tonal content for all classes you teach, and for meeting children’s musical needs through several years of instruction.

Your engagement in this process, in itself, will offer new insights into lesson planning, while enhancing your grasp of curriculum materials. It will walk you through the thought process of creating effective lesson plans that serve both music teaching and music learning. As you regularly implement your lesson plans with children, you will get a better feel for sculpting energy by your choices and ordering of songs and activities, so that techniques that are very deliberate now, will become automatic. As you witness music learning over time in your own classroom, you will discover that the lesson planning process presented in this coursework can serve all ages and stages of children and all ages and stages of your own development as a music teacher.
