Is there a reason for the choice of tempos and vocal range of CCS Activities?

Yes.  The tempos chosen for each meter in Rhythm Activities facilitate your child’s rhythm development.  It is within this range of tempos for each meter that your child will most easily understand the meters, and learn to chant and move rhythmically.  Developing a sense of meter at these tempos will provide for your child to be rhythmically competent at any tempo.

The vocal range of Tonal Activities is the best range for your child’s tonal development.  Within this range, your child will most easily “comprehend” what he hears, and learn to sing what he hears.  [These songs go no lower than middle C on the piano, and no higher than the Bb above middle C.]

Art Songs are in this same beginning vocal range, with tempos that reflect the texts.

Play Songs, like folk songs, are to be sung spontaneously in whatever range is comfortable for your voice, and in whatever tempo fits the song and or mood.
