Grammy Lab

Outsmarting a 2 Year Old

Grandbaby #2, 2 years 11 months, had just started Class 8, when Grammy visited. The child was familiar with Rhythm Syllables in Duple and Triple meters, though not in unusual meters, and Tonal Syllables would be introduced in her next CCS Lesson. Her two year old independence was not about to take Grammy’s lead with Rhythm or Tonal Activities, so Grammy threw her a couple of curves. Grammy broke into Rhythm Syllables in Unusual Paired meter, and when doing tonal, Grammy used Tonal Syllables. Those little eyes told the whole story. Her musicianship trumped her two year old obstinance as she followed Grammy’s every syllable both in rhythm and in tonal.
