Grammy Lab

Tonal Magic

Grammy sang melodic segments with Tonal Syllables in Dorian tonality while Grandchild #1, 2 years 3 months watched. She engaged Resting Tone Rabbit, a puppet, to sing the Resting Tone after each segment. The child was charmed. Grammy sang on the Resting Tone, “Can you sing with Resting Tone Rabbit?” The child was so drawn in you could see the difference in his eyes. He sang the resting tone on the syllable Rum, right on pitch. As Grammy continued, it was as if the child had to break the intensity of the tonality by insisting that the puppet was a bunny, not a rabbit!

Ten minutes later, when the child was playing with toys and Grammy wasn’t looking, a lovely little descending line came out of him in Tonal Syllables, nearly perfectly on pitch. His pretty little singing voice had not before introduced itself to Grammy. His belabored delivery of his favorite song, "Old Big Donald," with the descending “ee-i-ee-i-o,” didn't begin to match the intonation or beautiful sound of his “rim ra ri ro rum.”
